With the overlying 4 Bs, the specifics of those expectations, within the classroom, impact our learning as individuals, groups, and a classroom, as a whole. Students need to practice behaviors that encourage learning, participation, cooperation, and teamwork. They are expected to take responsibility for their actions and their learning. Since independent reading helps to create better readers, improve academic performance in all areas, and create life-long learners, our homework will include (but is not limited to) 20+ minutes of independent reading per day. Planners will be filled out daily, to be brought home. Students are also expected to maintain good attendance. Much of the work we do during the day (small group instruction, group/partner work, etc.) cannot be completed outside of class. Therefore, frequent absences limit the academic growth a student can make.
